TL;DR, my 2017 Goals are:
- Pierce ears
- Get a tattoo
- Finish Volume 4
- Finish Volume 5 (if we get there)
- Finish Rain script as a whole
- Begin second comic (perhaps a Nuzlocke?)

YES to the ears pierced!!! I got mine done a month ago and I'm older than dirt.

NO to the tattoo. I'm sorry, I know they're trendy to all the younger generations, but I see them as defacing the body. But that's just me. Do what makes you happy!

@Ruth

A lot of people would probably argue that my surgery was "defacing the body" too (and that technically has much more extreme implications than a tattoo). I would argue that people should just do whatever will make them happy in this life. I'm not looking to cover my body in tattoos; I just want some little symbol on my leg or shoulder that represents me in some way. ^_^

+1 on making yourself happy :-)

I think my real issue with tattoos stems from my mother having grown up in Germany in the 1930s under Hitler. She told us kids horror stories about how the Nazis tattooed serial numbers and symbols onto all their prisoners and she made us promise her we'd never get tattooed. And I never did.

But then she also made me promise to never own a motorcycle either, and when I was 29 I bought a Harley!

When it comes to tattoos the rule to remember is, As you grow older the eagle on your back becomes the buzzard in the crack. Just remember that when you are old, in a nursing home and the young aids have to bathe you they are gonna walk out of your room and laugh at how your tattoos look in wrinkly, baggy skin.
DramaDork 30th Dec 2016, 12:45 AM edit delete reply
I say heck yeah to the tattoo! I got a rainbow monarch butterfly on my left shoulder and I love it so much!
Some tips from my (heavily tattooed) older sister include:
Get your tattoo in a place it can be easily covered
Don't get a name tattooed on you
Don't get a meme tattooed on you
and make sure that you pick somewhere that isn't sensitive for your first tattoo. My friend got a full color rose tattoo on her wrist and cried the whole time, whereas I spent the time I was getting tattooed catching Pokémon.
(Side note: people will be assholes to you over your tattoo, should you choose to get one. But people will be assholes anyways, so you do you.)

I had my ears pierced just a smidge over a year ago. I'm 34 now, will be 35 in April.

Speaking of resolutions. Back in 2011 when I had my last major kick in the ass from dysphoria, I swore to myself that I'd be living fulltime by now, and would have my surgery before my 35th birthday. I only started hormones in May of this year, and am not even really part time yet.

I don't really know the conventions of a "Nuzlocke comic," but it sounds like a really good potential for emotions and cuteness and all the feelings from Pokemon mixed with all the feelings from Rain would make me squee!

:D

Also, and this surprised me a bit, there was a decent amount of indication for supporting a Patreon for the Rain Discord server. I can only imagine, setting up a Patreon for Rain itself would do much better! You have some fans who really want to support the comic! Is that something you would consider?

Actually, yes! I would like to set up a Patreon too. A lot of people have been asking if I have one, and that would probably help me out a lot. I'll see if I can make that happen soon. ^_^

its super easy to set up - trust me on that one :)

Please do set up a Patreon, if you can. I'd like to be able to support regularly. Thank you for the wonderful comic.

Would you base it on an actual Nuzlocke run, or would it be original writing? I love the lore that people create around streamer's nuzlockes and it could be a lot of fun for you. :P

Team Four Star's Leaf Green and Soul Silver runs was amazing for fan lore. Slowmara...

@Reimi

I logged notes for my Nuzlocke run of Pokemon Moon actually, so it will be my own original writing. And I do have plenty of original lore and personal interpretations/elaborations planned for characters/Pokemon/concepts/etc. I plan to have a lot of fun with this. ^_^

If you set up a Patreon account I will contribute to you. I owe you since it was because of Rain that pushed my doubt over the edge so I could begin my transition.

I looked into setting up the Rain Discord Patreon, and it really is pretty easy. If you want any help, I'd be glad to!

I cast my vote yes!

I assume Lemon does too, but I won't speak for her

Hey, Jocelyn! I absolutely adore your comic and would read anything you write. You're characters are just so lovable and masterfully crafted. I actually just (last ten minutes kind of just) finished drawing a panel recreation (taking a few minor liberties) of the last panel from "Finally". I hope you like it! http://stankard-toohy.deviantart.com/art/It-s-Finally-Happening-654134596

No problem! I'm glad you like it! My initial plan was to draw the whole page, but I thought it would be better to get it done faster while it's still relevant.

Get your ears pierced! Good excuse to meet a tattoo artist as may do piercings too.

On tattoos, I know people with one tattoo, and with more than two tattoos, but very very few who have 2 tattoos.

DramaDork 30th Dec 2016, 12:48 AM edit delete reply
You're right. I'll make sure to post on here when I get my second tattoo for your benefit. It'll probably be when I turn 17 or something, since my parents were hesitant to let me get the first tattoo lol.

My Goals

1. Name Change (Next week!)
2. Gender marker updates (Starting next week!)
3. Inform HR that I am transitioning (Needs to be soon)
4. Come out to everyone that doesn't already know.
5. Ears Pierced (I want pokeball earrings)
6. Get a Car
7. Start SRS savings plan
8. Buy Volumes 4 and 5 in 2017. :P

If I got a tattoo, it would probably be the Zelda Hylian Crest as my tramp stamp. :P

I feel like I should know this, but what is Nuzlocke? I'm gathering that it's a Pokemon thing, which I love, but I honestly have no idea what that means?
Jocelyn 30th Dec 2016, 7:06 AM edit delete reply
Jocelyn
@Rynn

Nuzlocke is a self-imposed challenge for playing any Pokemon game. The main rules as follows:

1. The player may only catch one Pokemon per area
2. All Pokemon must be named, for greater emotional attachment
3. If a Pokemon faints, it must be treated as dead and may no longer be used in battle

There are additional optional rules, but those are the essentials that make up a basic Nuzlocke run. As for a Nuzlocke comic, that's when you take notes of everything that happens in your game (when and where you catch a Pokemon, what you name it, how major battles fare for you, etc.) and create a story from your unique experience and interpretation.

I hope that helps clear things up. ^_^

Hey,
I've seen you post many wonderful ideas for stories & comics before, featuring original settings & characters that exist nowhere else. To be honest, I'd be far more into seeing one of those realized than a pokemon-based comic. I don't play the game and never have, so it really doesn't hold much interest, and just missing reference after reference doesn't sound like much fun.

Granted I don't want to tell you where to take your creative ideas, but you did ask for feedback ... I'm sure I'd read what you come up with (after all good writing transcends a setting or plot), but you have all these original creations rattling around in your head - why not use them?

PS I'm reading Rain because I enjoy the story, characters, and the writing, and seeing the tribulations of a segment of the population that I don't cross paths with often presented in a realistic way is enlightening. I'm a straight, cis guy in my early 40s so pretty much the complete opposite of your target demographic, but you won me over anyway. :P Just putting that out there.

Honestly, I don't even play Pokemon but I think I would love to read that Nuzlocke comic. :) It sounds fun.

My mom always wore clip-ons or none at all. She never got her ears pierced. Tattoos, NEVER! Sounds good to me. Maybe I'm old fashioned that way? Then again mom would never wear some of the things I wear.

I'd say go for it on the tattoo and piercings! I have a trans pride tattoo that I designed on my left hip and I love it!

Pierced ears: I have very low tolerance for pain, so I could never do that, but if you want it, go for it!
Tattoo: See Pierced Ears.
Finish Volume 4 & 5: *is a minor with no way to buy them* :(
Finish Rain script: Two thumbs up.
Second webcomic: While I have never been a big fan of Nuzlockes, I have faith that Jocelyn can make it interesting.
Second webcomic not being Magical: http://images.cryhavok.org/d/5040-1/LOLbunny+-+Is+Sad.jpg

Go a head and get a tat. Who gives a shit if it's whatever- me and you are already some sort of "disgrace" to society, anyway. No simply getting a tat isn't unique, niether are a pair of Nike Air Max, or a piercing(real or fake), but...what you get is what matters. I have guages...hipsters, punks, my fellow goths, juggalos and juggalettes all have them...doesn't matter. I have four tats so far...doesn't matter that every Tom, Dick and Harry do too. It's just a THING, a thing people do and most aren't trying to be different or unique anymore.

If ya think of some tat ideas, I could probably draw some up for you. Just promise you'll be the only person with it...don't cheapen it.

You should totally get your ears pierced! The best thing about the ears is that it doesn't hurt either (well I didn't feel anything anyway), so there is no pain. A tattoo would be cool, despite what people might say you should do what makes you happy
