I'm not sure if this is surprising or not. Ky's certainly no stranger to being impulsive. I mean, that was still out of left field, but I guess it's still a pretty Ky thing to do. XD

But I open the floor to you. How can we interpret this? Does Ky have some kind of returned feelings for Drew, or is he just taking the hit because he thought that'd derail Drew's thought process? And what of Drew? What must be going through his head right now?

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

Er-hem. I hope this doesn't detract from story-related comments, but as you may or may not have heard, I've got an appointment for SRS consultation scheduled for the end of the month. Maybe - just maybe - something good will be in my future. This also means your help was never more welcome if you're willing and/or able. Buying books, or shirts, or scarves/wristbands, or just plain donations are all very helpful right now. Obviously, if you are unable to or don't want to offer anything, that's totally fine. There are other ways you can help. Like voting for Rain on TopWebComics or joining/sharing the Facebook page can help spread the word about my work. Thanks for anything you can do; no hard feelings if you can't. ^_^

You're right, that is a pretty Ky thing to do...
I wonder where this will go next.
I'm actually really interested in this story arc, as it explains a 'new' kind of story- Drew knows next to nothing about being LGBTQIA+ and so Ky is having to teach him, whereas he seems to be struggling with feelings for Ky and not really understanding his fluidity, though from what I've seen in this chapter he seems to be getting a better grasp on it.

Drew. You sir, just got Ky'd.

Though I think this was a very effective way to shift the focus of the conversation away from Rain, so points to Ky for that!

Ky is in boy-mode... Does this mean Drew is officially (at least) bi?

And Ky -- you ROCK.
steveha 15th Jan 2016, 6:41 AM edit delete reply
This means that Drew is officially attracted to Ky in boy-mode. I don't think we have, in canon, seen him attracted to anyone other than Ky and perhaps Rain. He's all questioning himself right now and thinking "WHAT IF I'M BISEXUAL" but I think his thoughts have been going in circles and he hasn't progressed much past that.

I think this is the root of why he is suddenly so interested in the possibility that Rain is trans. If he's attracted to Rain, and Rain is trans... does that make him bisexual? (Thoughts in circles again!) Or, if he can prove that Rain is female, then does that mean he's *not* bisexual?

The thing is, he hasn't started ogling all the guys around him. So even if he is a bit bisexual, it's situational or selective or whatever.

Maybe he is just attracted to people who look like Ky looks. Stranger things have happened.

I agree that Ky rocks... this is my favorite Ky moment now.

Yup, I remember going through a similar experience.

Given that Ky was the first time Drew was strongly attracted (crushing) on a masculine presentation, we don't know. Part of the confusion about it may be that he has had similar but weaker feelings about other men, and assumed it was non-sexual since of course he's attracted to women. The fact that his first crush was gender fluid does probably add to his confusion. (This isn't a negative thing or anyone's fault. It just is.)

Its possible Drew is attracted more strongly to women than men. A large portion of the bisexual community has some preference. However, I don't think even Drew knows it at this point. He may have been suppressing his feeling about the same sex up until this point (or thought that because he liked women, he assumed hetero). Right now he's probably too confused to do too much ogling of anyone.

As someone who has never had a lot of crushes, figuring out how I felt about other men was not normal was confusing. So I empathize here.

Someone needs to introduce poor Drew to the Kinsey scale. This is his seemingly only attraction to a male persona, so if he is otherwise straight, he's simply a one rather than a zero
Ranthog 16th Jan 2016, 6:57 PM edit delete reply
Personally I think it does a disservice to put Drew anywhere but in the questioning identity right now. He doesn't really seem sure about his attraction to anyone right now (based on pass scenes in the comic).

I think if you asked him the questions right now to try to place him on the Kinsey Scale he'd probably give you a lot of I'm not sure and I don't knows as answers. From my experience, you can incorrectly label things as sexual attraction or as platonic if you're confused about these things. (Especially if you think your attraction should be one of these things.)

I would guess he'd might develop into wind up identifying as Bisexual (or one of the more specific labels in the bisexual spectrum)... I'm less sure of where he winds up on the spectrum between 1 and 5. But I don't think the character is any of these yet.

It's a little weird seeing everyone looking at this sexuality thing when to my eyes... I look at Drew and Drew's behavior and think "Egg who is developing transdar"

Well it seems to me like in the first panel she's almost a bit hurt that he's so interested in Rain when you know, they're kinda on a date... >.> I mean yes she's trying to protect her friend, but still I'm pretty sure she has returned feelings there, and the kiss just synchs it.

I love the character progression Drew's been getting.

Should I call Ky by the page and use the pronouns they had on that specific page, or should I just use they? This is a webcomic, so it's not like real life where pronouns would change as that person would as time progressed, but say I went back a couple pages, and I would change pronouns to fit that time, on that page, not when referring to it. The actual question: Should I use the most resent pronouns that Ky used on a page, or should I use they/them when referring to Ky? Because I can use the most resent pronouns, but when they're not on page, it will be weird to refer to them if /I haven't seen them in a while. I'm thinking too much into this, aren't I? I don't know...
Pinecone1532 15th Jan 2016, 6:53 PM edit delete reply
I would imagine its best to use the pronouns that suit how Ky (or Kylie, as the case may be) is presenting at the time. Its been a while since he's last appeared, but afaik that's how its always worked before.

@BillycannotFly

Ky's preferred pronouns are never explicitly stated. My vision with Ky is that he isn't too strict about pronouns, so I'm willing to leave that up to reader discretion.

However, the way I personally talk about Ky lately is based on his presentation in the current page. When in boy mode (like in this page), Ky would prefer male pronouns. In girl mode, female pronouns. When androgynous, both sets of pronouns are acceptable. It's okay to refer to him as "Ky" with any presentation, but "Kylie" should NOT be used when in boy mode. Most readers also use "singular they" and some use gender neutral pronouns like "xe" when referring to Ky, and I don't feel like he'd have any problem with those either. Really, as long as it's not blatant misgendering, the kid's pretty laid back (like, just don't call him a girl on this page).

I really enjoy this section so far, because while I haven't had a Ky to put me on track, or off track as it were, but I've had to question my preferences before. I would put a solid bet that Drew is hetroflexible, in so much as if he likes you, then he likes you, but he has a very, overwhelmingly strong preference to girls.

Ky's just that awesome ;3

My guess? Ky is trying to have fun, and kissing he confused boy seemed fun. Nothing about personal romantic feelings or altruistic played a decisive part in the decision.

She's out with a boy who's really interested in her and trying to figure out how his attraction varies based on her presentation. Why would she be willing to put up with him having thoughts about someone else right now?

Yeah, I can come up with reasons. Him trying to figure out personal details about one of her friends isn't a good one. So, time to refocus.
