I'm hoping it's clear that Drew here is not malicious. Nosy perhaps - and definitely asking about things that aren't his business - but not with any intention of causing harm. His questions, however poorly worded, are pure curiosity. He might not understand Ky's reality, but he's not being mean or making fun. He's certainly no Kellen.

That said, the boy DOES need to learn when to keep his mouth shut. XD

A lot of people predicted Drew would interpret things like this though, with him thinking Rain is like Ky. And then there's Ky's answer. Could that have been worded better, or was that about as well as it could've gone? And would a response like this satisfy Drew enough for him to let it go, or will there just be more questions?

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

Er-hem. I hope this doesn't detract from story-related comments, but as you may or may not have heard, I've got an appointment for SRS consultation scheduled for the end of the month. Maybe - just maybe - something good will be in my future. This also means your help was never more welcome if you're willing and/or able. Buying books, or shirts, or scarves/wristbands, or just plain donations are all very helpful right now. Obviously, if you are unable to or don't want to offer anything, that's totally fine. There are other ways you can help. Like voting for Rain on TopWebComics or joining/sharing the Facebook page can help spread the word about my work. Thanks for anything you can do; no hard feelings if you can't. ^_^

"It's just stupid to think she could be anything but" says the gender fluid girl to the guy who is still questioning everything he thought he knew...

Anyone else find that comical?
No pun intended...

Oh, come on, Ky. No need for these awkwardly-worded half-truths. Just LIE. It's really none of Drew's business unless and until Rain decides it's okay for it to be his business. And if he's as understanding as you're banking on him being anyway, he'll get that if it's explained to him later.
Chase 14th Jan 2016, 12:44 AM edit delete reply
Honestly, not seeing any lie in Ky's statement. To lie would be Ky saying Rain is a guy, as she isn't.
AmbiguousMouse 14th Jan 2016, 11:58 PM edit delete reply
I know, Ky didn't lie. That's my point; he should have. He used this awkward technically-correct wording to tell the truth while hopefully getting Drew off his case, when he should've just lied and said something that would've made Drew drop it completely. If Rain wanted Drew to know, Drew would know; up till that point it's none of his business.

Apologies. My statement was in regards to you calling what Ky said a half-truth when it really wasn't, in my eye.

"I haven't seen her hair, but I'm sure she's not a guy." That's pretty clear cut.

The only problem I have with her final statement is she seems to have forgotten the last couple.

Poor Ky being put on the spot like that. Sadly, coming from Ky, that answer probably won't stick. :P

Gonna be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Seems like Drew means well but shutting up really isn't his speciality. I'd be worried about him knowing coz he could easily slip and that would be the end of Rain's stealth

That look on Ky's face in the 5th that is a face of some one thinking "Don't blow it, Don't blow it, Don't blow it" i wonder how Rain's going to take this when Ky tells her about it.

"I technically haven't seen her since last week."

I appreciate the 'technically' here. Must have felt like a long week, Ky.

I think Ky kinda screwed up in the last panel. It's very much a politician's answer; evasive and dismissive. From my experience, answers like those tend to make people annoyed and inadvertently makes them keep digging for a straight answer elsewhere.

Perhaps something like, "*shrug* I don't like speculating about people like that. Remember when you had those jerks discussing whether you were gay right in front of you, even though you like girls? It'd be pretty similar wondering whether Rain's a girl even when she's told us she is."

....Hmmm it actually took quite a bit of thought to come up with that.

Better than me, I'd have given an angry possibly-mostly-unjustified rant on the subject being none of his business and/or motives I made up on the spot and assumed to be accurate.

I think Ky could have worded it a little better, it probably won't get Drew to back off
Mina 13th Jan 2016, 11:32 PM edit delete reply
Oh, Ky, are you saying that Kellen's stupid? :p
But Rain's just a girl, indeed.

Well, I guess it could've been worded better. I think the "like you" is not accurate at all (and, who knows, could hurt Ky), as Drew is basically saying that Ky is in boy mode, but is just a girl.
I'm not genderfluid myself, so if I'm wrong, please correct me. ~
Anyway, Drew does his best to understand Ky. That's nice! He should read Rain. :3

Drew's words are in accurate and low on effectiveness, but that's because he barely has any idea about the subject of gender identity-what makes this most painstakingly obvious is the fact that he doesn't use the term transgender, and given the fact that he's having this conversation, he's not uncomfortable with the topic by any means. That should jump out. Of course, I may be wrong-I am sometimes uncomfortable with using the term in conversation or even bringing up the topic at all, so perhaps Drew is also circumlocuting as best as he is able.

On an unrelated note, so I was at rehearsal today and I was trying on my costume for the first time. In the dressing room, I hear one of the other guys say "you know, wha if someone at the school came out as trans?" Keep in mind I attend an all male school, which is what gives most of the weight to the question. It took SO much self control to not bust out laughing because they asked that when there's a transgirl (myself) not ten feet away from them. I instead tried to gauge a potential reaction by trying to redirect the question at them, but it didn't work, the topic was simply dropped. At least the failure didn't arouse suspicion.
Zii 17th Jan 2016, 6:19 PM edit delete reply
I remember those days... Where every now and then, the topic would come up, and I was still in the closet. And I would try to learn more about their reaction, use it to probe while still being hyper cautious about not giving anything away. Nngh. It almost never worked to get information, but it didn't tip anyone off, so I was partially successful at least.

Hang in there! It's so awesome when you don't have to play games like that anymore!
