Just in case anyone still hasn't gotten the memo, I'm just going to repeat this one last time: I've learned recently that I have testicular cancer. The good things are that this is extremely curable, and getting it removed will actually be something of a blessing anyway. The bad things are that I've been spending a lot of time calling doctors, getting tests done, making appointments for other tests to be done, and when I get a free moment, I'm not really feeling up for drawing. So I think there's unfortunately going to be a hiatus starting now. I want take my time and just focus on what needs to be done for this, and not stress myself out trying to make page deadlines at the same time.

Unfortunately, this is cutting into the middle of a chapter, and for that I'm sorry. The hiatus may be a long one, going until I get this thing removed and am recovered and ready to start drawing again (and at this time, I can't even guess when that will be). I will keep you posted in the meantime, and maybe try to casually do a few non-plot things if I feel up for it.

Other than that, I'm trying to keep a good attitude and a sense of humor, so I would appreciate it if you all did too. And I suppose I'll leave the donation link here too if anyone who's able to help still would like to (don't beat yourself up if you can't though). Just keep me in your thoughts and prayers, and I think we'll be through this in no time.

Wow, yeah, this seems like a familiar conversation that went on not long ago with my parents, me, my gf, and my best friend.

I'm really sorry to hear about the cancer though, I hope it goes alright for you. I've had to help take care of my grandmother when she was dealing with cancer, and I really hope your issues you have to deal with from it with the chemo and radiation (hopefully you won't need to do alot) won't be as bad as my grandmothers.

The potential for there to be a need for someone to give this talk is what keeps me from coming out to my parents..

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but have you considered starting a Patreon? A little something to help you earn money each month to pay for expenses while offering a few prizes? It would certainly be a good idea since you provide such wonderful and insightful content :D

I've started reading recently (I binge read the first 21 chapters in a day XD) and I figure now'd be a good time to comment. I've absolutely loved the comic so far; Rain is precious, and I hope her sister comes around soon! I also adore Chanel; I'm ace too, so there's so so little representation of people like me in general, so it's really important to me that there's an awesome ace character in a webcomic I enjoy.

Anyways, there's no need at all to apologize for the unplanned hiatus; just focus on getting through this. I wish you the best, and having a positive attitude will definitely make everything easier. Good luck, and get well soon!

I heard that testicular cancer happens more often in the younger set. Damn it. That means my chances of that happening for me are slim.

Sure, it's a risk to life. That part's never good. Then again, if I had testicular cancer my care plan couldn't refuse me an orchiodectomy. I so want the testicles gone forever!

I don't hate my penis. (Not so in love with it either.) I do want to have the full set of reproductive female organs via of newer developments in stem cell research. Did you know they have grown real vaginas in petri dishes? From patients own cells. The only reason they didn't grow cervix and uterus as well was because those parts weren't missing for the patients. I could be okay with keeping the penis as long as I get to have the full set of female reproductive organs. Seeing as I'm bisexual (before HRT I was lesbian). Or not. Not every woman wants to be penetrated. But I hate the testicles. Those have just got to go. The sooner the better.

Anyways, love Rain. I love how you've made Emily turn out to be. I would like to see a lot more of Kylie Coven and more character development for her/him/both. I so want to see Aiken kiss Jessica Li's butt royally to make up for his asshattery to her and fully realize what a good thing he had going with her. Aiken seems to have a good start alread but I want to see him completely fix up his character to get back with Jessica. And I want to see more of her story.

Let's see more Maria Strongwell. And can we please see some in depth character development for Puddles? %-?

Ooh. That's rough. On the bright side, those come off really easily (I'm a vet student, so I would know), and it's not like you really needed them, but still. Never good to have cancer. Good luck!

Please don't worry about having a hiatus! You're health is far more important. :<

Don't worry about the hiatus at all! After all, it's better for all of us to have a short hiatus then it is to lose you!
Also, I love Emily and hate Kellen more with each page this chapter.

Maybe she'll be okay after Emily and Aiken help her with pulling her head out of her butt.
Cherise 11th Oct 2014, 6:45 AM edit delete reply
Let's play a game. Lets' see who can come up with the best retort for Emily to give for Kellen's last SNAFU. I'll go first.

"Oh, but what's in question is do you know who you mean? Because, right now it's clear you don't. You're getting it all wrong. You need to take some good time out to get your head straight."

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. If there were any way to get cancer, I guess this is the one way it would actually have a bit of a silver lining. I hope the surgery goes well and you are feeling better soon!

In other words, Rain has become one of my favorite comics recently! Rain's story is so inspirational, and especially the idea of having a friend like Emily. It is amazing to see how Emily's character has grown!

Best of luck with the surgery,
Matt

A year ago, my wife got breast cancer, BRCA-type, very aggressive, good chances although. Now she is offically cured, but it was hell of a hard year. We still had good days in that year, no doubt, but there had been a lot of fucked up days, chemotherapy wasn't fun at all. It was not as bad as expected, but it was still far away from okay.

It took her a year to cure, and she hasn't gotten her old strengh back. But she survived for which I'm deeply grateful.

I hope you do survive, and be cured and please take care of yourself as long as you can do.
Perhaps there will come a point where you just want to give it up and everything seems senseless to you, prepare someone to take care of you in this hard time, someone who has the will to survive for you and not let you give up.

I hope you can be cured with a surgery and radiotherapy and do not need to get chemotherapy.

So, best wishes and stay alive.

@Cherise

"she gets to have her testicles removed."

One small correction, just 'cause I hear this one a lot (that and a couple people assuming I'd get free SRS out of this [oh god, I wish!]). They're actually only removing the one with the tumor. I don't know all the specific details or how it all technically works (I'm in no way a doctor, after all), but something about this method will prevent the cancer from being spread to anywhere else during the surgery. I mean, I kinda wish they could at least take the other one too because it does seem redundant to leave it (I'm only going to get rid of it eventually anyway). But given the circumstances, I guess I can't argue. I'd rather be left with one nut and no cancer, than the other way around.

That said, for now I'm just trying to look on the bright side. It's kinda like having 33% of my surgery done. When it IS finally time for SRS, my surgeon will have one less thing to worry about. And in the meantime, tucking will probably become a fair bit easier. Positives! XD

So, if you do an AU where you put all of Rain's characters in a high fantasy war scenerio, Emily would definitely be the indelible swordswoman. You know, she goes against people with giant axes, arrows, and ballistas armed with nothing but the priceless foil she stole from her decaying, noble house. Her defense is minute but impenetrable, her offense is completely understood (she's going to stab you through your armor's weak spots) but impossible to counter forever, and her footwork is considered almost superhuman. That's kinda how she is, with her dialogue in the comic.

Also, I swear to god kellen if you imply anything about rain and that baby! So help me!!!
Zi 12th Sep 2015, 4:42 PM edit delete reply
I'm not sure Emily is helping. Kellen can just write her off, and this confrontational, all or nothing approach will just make her feel cornered, which is not a good place for change to happen.

Yeah, I've heard that from people who then had the people back off, and the people who weren't getting their head around the concepts continued to not get their head around the concepts.

There's a reason teachers do this sort of thing with problem students, tutors do it from time to time, and so forth. Sure, people eventually need time to process, but when simple conversation isn't enough, this can be helpful.

I totally relate to Emily, people hate my know-it-all-ness.

Though being upset for being expected to be decent to others disqualifies any annoyance.
