I second guessed the dialogue of the second page a bit. On any given day, I would look at the page again and think, “Oh, that Rudy. What a card!” Then I’d look at it again the next day and think, “God, Rudy! Don’t be such a jerk!” I drew this page well over a month ago, so I’ve had a lot of back and forth with myself about it. I ultimately left it though. Although his comment COULD be interpreted as being really douchey, obviously Rain doesn’t think so. And given his delight with her response, it clearly was just meant to be Rudy being… Rudy.

Both pages portray an awkward overall exchange to be sure, but what important dialogue in life isn’t horribly awkward in some way? :)

Well, at least it looks like Rain and Rudy won't be on bad terms after this. I was kind of worried there, but it looks like it will be a pretty amicable break up, at least as far as break ups go...

Aww (: , in the end it was a good thing that both of them started dating.

Well, Rudy is about the coolest guy I know now.

I'm gonna go ahead and say you got it right. Because that 2nd page is my favorite Rudy in ever.

Both for the joke, and because he looks awesome in that last panel.

Rudy shows wisdom beyond his years, I feel for him because despite everything he's been through in life he can still be positive and funny.

I immediately like Rudy more from this. Because, well, I'd say the EXACT same thing.

Wow. Coming through this page again, it's striking how subtle Rudy's emotional cues are here. The shaken sigh of relief in the second to last panel, the way his eyebrows betray the expressions he's trying to express... Well done, Jocelyn.

That's why I don't buy the whole "transwomen into men are straight." It reduces them to an expectation of normalcy. I like women, because I was a male, and learned to like women. I can hang out with men but on some level it feels weird.

@Samantha

If a trans woman who is exclusively into men claims to be straight, there's nothing to "buy". There's literally no reason not to trust her claim. Even if you don't like her use of labels, it's not really anyone else's business to discourage someone from addressing themselves how they feel most comfortable.

That said, regarding labels: take away the prefix and trans women ARE women. Just as cis women are women. And women who are exclusively into men are very likely to call themselves straight. If we wouldn't question a cis woman for saying this, then there's no reason to question a trans woman.

And I'm not really sure what you mean by the "expectation of normalcy". I can only speak for myself (though I'm sure most would agree), but my orientation has nothing to do with anyone else's expectations. I didn't "learn" to like women because of the conditions of my birth. I was attracted to women pre-transition and I am attracted to women now. There's no "why"; I simply am.

Rudy has a defense mechanism built into his psyche... when his heart is breaking, he has to play the funny guy comedian. But inside his heart is still breaking.
