Yep. This is a thing I'm doing now.

I recently wrote a journal entry on DA about my trying to come up with more complex designs for the clothing of the main cast in Rain. Afterward, I began doing something I probably should have done about two and half years ago BEFORE starting to draw and post the comic: make character sheets that portray a variety of costumes for each character.

And that's what you see here. Rain wasn't one of the problem characters; actually, I LIKE her outfits (they're largely based off of my wardrobe, so I might be biased). But if I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this for everyone. And I may as well start with the main character to ease myself into things. This is by no means everything she's ever worn and ever will wear, but it does give a pretty good idea of what her style is.

Rain's style is quite simple, actually, but she easily has some of the most complex outfits in the story so far. It's worth noting, that she pretty much never wears pants. Skirts or dresses will always be her first choice (regardless of weather). And 90% of the time, she's got neckgear, usually in the form of a collar (though we may see it replaced for scarves during the Winter segments of the story). Incidentally, she wears a lot of black, but not really in a "goth way". In most cases, it goes with something else that's a bit lighter.

Rain also does pretty much everything with her hair. Well, the back of it anyway. She seldom strays from the one-covered eye look in front. But her hair has been tied back (or not) in a number of ways throughout the comic. I'd be happy to explore more as things go if there's any other practical styles I can go with. Because, considering the front is pretty much always the same (unless otherwise noted) she always remains recognizable, no matter what happens to the back.

Anyway, that's it for now, but by all means: ask questions, make suggestions, whatever. I'm happy to hear. I'll be continuing to do one for each of the main kids (probably Gavin next, because I feel like I got the most support for ideas for him when I asked). If all goes well, I'll try to post one of these every day a normal page doesn't go up until I cover everyone.

Also, if anyone is curious about that journal - http://jocelyncd.deviantart.com/journal/Wardrobe-malfunctioning-351912027

Try and see if the Korra hairstyle would work with her.
You know, from that spin-off of avatar the last air bender?

By the numbering system I can see, Page 313 is about Maria and Chanel, and doesn't have Rain on it.
Can you tell us what the page was called where Rain wheres that red dress? It's really cute.

Ah! Sorry. I'd forgotten about Comic Fury's arbitrary page numbering system (and kick myself to this day for not manually numbering every page).

If you don't count chapter pages or Rain Delays or whatever other bonus stuff, then the page I just posted with Emily is actually p.301. In other words, 313 hasn't happened yet. So don't worry, you haven't missed it; you just haven't seen it yet. ^_^

Sorry, that didn't translate as well as I meant to.

Wait, isn't that page where Rain dressed as a guy? If you're referring to the red dress that Rudy bought for her, that had straps...

I iz confused. <_<

@Moon Warrior

You mean this? http://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/293/

Indeed, it did have straps, and it was shorter (among other details). This is a different dress altogether though (what can I say: I just like Rain in red). There are plans for her to wear Rudy's gift dress at some point, but this is not that dress.

As for the page numbering, that I have to apologize for. When I wrote this, I'd forgotten about Comic Fury's arbitrary page numbering system (and kick myself to this day for not manually numbering every page).
In other words, the actual p.313 hasn't happened yet. So don't worry, you haven't missed it; you just haven't seen it yet. ^_^

D'awww! She's so cute! I really like her black choker.
I always wanted a choker when I dressed as a girl...I never actually got one...and I'm not a convincing enough guy yet to wear anything even slightly girly. And now that trend of really cool tights is happening! There are even ones that look like Iron Man armor! But now I dress as a guy...because I am a guy...and guy's clothes make me feel so much better...and they're more practical...but they are sort of boring sometimes...for every day they're much better, but for dressing up girl's clothes are more interesting. I wish I could wear dresses and still have people see me as a guy...maybe after I've been on T for a few years? But people would accuse me of not being a guy at all if they knew I was biologically female and wore a dress, ever...

I own that look on the right. The red sweater dress, the grey stockings, and the boots.

Rain needs a hat, I could see her rocking a sunhat or maybe a gallon hat if she's feeling yee-haw enough.

Love all the outfits you've drawn for her. My favorite is the first one. I love the cut of the top.
