You know, this is probably the most “action” to appear in this comic to date. ^_^

For all of her teasing, there’s probably nobody who cares more about Rain than Aunt Fara. You really kinda can’t blame her for getting upset anyway. It’s frustrating to hear someone speak ill of or make accusations toward someone you care about. It’s even more frustrating when their remarks are completely wrong and baseless. And then it’s downright infuriating when you can’t even tell them why they’re wrong in the effort of keeping a secret. Metaphorically speaking, Mrs. Parker was walking blindly into a lion’s den and stepping on every tail along the way; she didn’t know it, but she kinda had it coming.

And don’t worry, Mrs. Parker will be fine. It’s just a rolled-up, poster-size piece of paper (Fara’s student’s homework). Aunt Fara wasn’t trying to hurt her, after all… just shut her up.

As a side note, it was entirely unintentional, but the pairing of these two characters reminds me vaguely of Yukari and Nyamo from Azumanga Daioh (possibly due to the dramatic poster slap). Mrs. Parker wasn’t originally meant to be that important of a character, but I think I’d like to explore more of this dynamic in the future. ^_^

But look at it from Mrs. Parker's perspective. She doesn't know about Rain being trans.
All she sees is someone saying they have asthma with no proof. And she's probably had people try stuff like this to get out of gym class before.
But we, the readers, get mad at her because we know things about the situation that she doesn't.
And then Fara apparently decides that getting mad and using violence is the best solution.

So long as there's doubt about whether Mrs. Parker would be supportive if she understood the truth, I cannot condone the desire to assault her for being in her role. I understand the feeling of frustration, but as far as we have seen by this point, she's just acting as the messenger.

There really wasn't a school option that didn't require gym? Or did Ryan not take gym over the past three years due to asthma, so now that she's Rain, she's a senior with no gym on record, so it's required?

That said, it also feels like defeatism played a role in not having a doctor's note. Unless they're really out in the boonies, there are probably a bunch of doctor options, and they just need to find one that's trans friendly. When my family lived out in the boonies, there *still* were a bunch of doctor options. Just that, I'm pretty sure none of them were brave enough to be known as LGBTQA friendly. (Not including 'ally' in that, because that role does not have any significant MD support needs beyond the standard. Psychologist support, maybe. "OMG my friends have all of these issues interacting with society and I'm the only one who seems inclined to help them!" and all. But in all of my closeted decades, I've never needed my PCP to write *me* a note to explain something of my sexuality.) Of course, by the time this strip happened, it was way too late to do anything about it. It's just... preparation that should've been done over the summer that was missed. Because not being able to get doctor's notes is a lot more than just not being able to get out of gym.
