Random fan art following the Nintendo Direct Mini earlier this week. Judging by the responses I've seen of the event as a whole, I think I'm the only one who appreciated the announcements of SMT: Nocturne HD, and after years of no news, a release window for SMT5. The original Nocturne is a longtime fave of mine and I'm so glad to see it finally get the HD treatment (I'm honestly shocked it's taken this long). And SMT5 is one of the reasons I wanted a Switch to begin with (I think it was like one of the first games announced for it), so seeing the light at the end of the tunnel at last is super exciting!

I've seen people hating on this Direct a lot, and I admit the first half of it was leaving me unimpressed too. But the promise of two Shin Megami Tensei games next year is like the best news I've heard all 2020. And yeah, I know that's kinda sad, but have you seen this year!? ^^;

Anyway, I've been meaning to do fan art of Nocturne's Demi-Fiend (on the left) for a very long time now; there's probably over a decade of never getting around to it. And that SMT5 protag (on the right) is just so beautifully androgynous and I love them and their comfy-looking flowery uniform. This announcement ended up being a great opportunity to draw them both.

So yeah, maybe no one but me even cared about these announcements, and this piece probably isn't going to be a big deal for most folks. But I'm really happy about this news and I really wanted any excuse to draw these two. Even if these announcements fell flat for you or you don't care about this kinda stuff, I hope y'all like the art, at least. ^_^

If you're into RPGs, I very strongly recommend the series. :)

If you're not into RPGs, though, it's probably not going to change your mind.

This is one of the most wholesome webcomics ever written. I love it.

It’s not too fluffy like the Princess(still a good webcomic), or as dramatic as Khaos Komix, it’s the perfect definition of a Dramedy.

I was also unimpressed until by the Direct until the SMT announcement. I was hoping for Persona when the Atlus logo showed up, but I'll take this as a close second.
I've never played an SMT game, but the Switch has proven to be a great place to finally get into old franchises on.

Hmm. Sounds interesting. I have quite a few games on my list so I am fairly unlikely to get it. The problem one faces when having money that is not really for games and you are saving.

I love FF5 (including the FJF event) and SMT:Nocturne, and I've been pleasantly surprised you've showcased art for them recently.

@Kaelin

Glad to surprise and delight! JRPGs of all kinds are kinda my jam, so I'm honestly surprised fan art like this doesn't happen more often. XD

You should get trans girls from other webcomics make a guest appearance in some one shots. Just get the author's permission first. I mean I can just imagine it in my head. Princess Sarah and Rain interacting with each other now wouldn't that be awesome.

I've tried SMT Nocturne but I could never get into the non persona games as much as I was interested in there stories (especially the devil survivor games). But does anyone else hear Nocturne and still think, 'Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry Series'

Would be nice to be able to play SMT:N without the AV "filter" you see on a lot of older games when played on a modern TV.

I really need to get back into playing 4 and 4A.

Ahhhhhhhh(x100000)
Finally, a SMT game proper again! (Persona is just not the same... DeSu, DeSum, DDS, all feels SMT, but Persona just doesn't :<) The Atlus <st>gods</st> daemons (#TeamChaos) have smiled down on us once more!
(Just please don't ruin the canon like SMT IV did again...)

What other SMT games have you played and enjoyed?
DeSu 1 is my favorite, although I can never get past the MC's weird antenna-things (Yes, I know it's headphones, but still!)

Oh, I love Persona too, but they are definitely different kinds of games.

In addition to Nocturne, I've played Devil Survivor 1 and 2, Soul Hackers, Strange Journey, SMT4. I have SMT4 Apocalypse, but still never got around to it. And I watched my spouse play Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, but for some reason, I couldn't get into them myself. So, I think I've played (or at least secondhand experienced) every SMT that made it out of Japan (except the Raidou Kuzunoha games, but not for lack of interest). My favorites are Nocturne and Devil Survivor 2 by far, but I generally enjoyed them all.

I see. Do you have a particular boss you're fond of?

I still have nightmares about Alice because of how hard she was in Strange Journey and DeSu2.
Like, they're not the hardest bosses in the game or even the series, Lucifer (among some other bosses) has that honor. But they were so unexpectedly hard that I got party wiped a lot of times before I got them.
All SMT players are some level of masochist; it's not just me! I swear it's true!

I just recently finished playing IV and started DeSu so I'm neck deep in the hype.
