Fun fact: There hasn't been much dancing at this school dance. This is partly because I wasn't quite sure how to draw it. Especially considering I can't imagine Rain or Gavin actually knowing how to dance. XD

When I started looking up references for this page, I felt like all I could find was images of professional dancers and really top tier ballroom moves and poses. On the one hand, that might actually be a lot of fun to draw. On the other, it's pretty much the exact opposite of what I was going for. So I thought back to that middle school mentality of "his hands on her waist, her hands on his shoulders, and they both just kinda sway awkwardly for a couple minutes" and I tried to replicate that as best as I could to do that without a reference (because I couldn't think of how to Google that).

That first shot of the two of them together may actually be my new favorite panel in the whole comic. XD

Other than that, I totally have those thoughts about talking to my past self all the time. Sometimes in good ways. Sometimes in bad ways. I don't know if it necessarily achieves anything to consider scenarios like that; it's just something overthinkers like me and Gavin do. ^_^

And just in case anyone was gonna ask: No, no one can hear them. People are watching. People might be able to make out enough mouth movement to know that they're talking or laughing, but nobody hears them saying anything over whatever cheesy slow song is playing.

Time joke

Not gonna lie, this one took me a bit to get. I got there in the end though, so no harm done.

It's even better than I thought , I just noticed Gavin looking at the copyright 2010-2019 as he says his line in the last panel. Love it

Weirdly specific number indeed,.... lol!
First day of class webcomic pages were published beginning on December 1st, 2010 just a few months short of a full nine years ago.
I discovered Rain right before starting HRT and my own transition... my 3 year HRT anniversary is coming up just another 5 weeks.

This has been like the longest school year EVARRR!!!!

"like it's been 9 years"

Lol.
It's funny when I look back at when I first started reading rain and my now 6 year old child wasn't even something I dreamed of having.
So much has changed and so have I. Both physically and mentally.
Sadly it's not been all good but that's life and it's how we grow as a person.
I'm not sure how much longer we have in the rain series but I'll just keep enjoying it till it's over. 😊 Thanks for the memories.

@spoon

While we're definitely in the latter portion of the story, this is definitely not the ending. This isn't even the last chapter. There's a few more things I wanna cover before it's over, so we still have a bit "MOAR" to go. ^_^

I came out October of last year. (Gonna start HRT process next month, informed conseent method is great)

I didn't find this comic immediately, but a few months in and have been eagerly digesting it all since. Got caught up around March just in time for my first birthday as a trans nonbinary woman.

Have thoroughly enjoyed it since and can't wait for whatever else may come. Even should it end up feeling like 9 yrs or more next time.

Rain's story so far has really helped me and so many others and I am so happy to see this moment, no matter how awkward life can make it.

So much of my life has changed for the better in these last 9 months with me moving into a better home with family that understands and accepts and loves me. And finding so many people both online and off who do the same.

And the best part? My city's Pride is this weekend and I'm gonna be out, colorful, loud and proud in all of me. Have an awesome 4 flags in one flag to say iteven louder too (Panro, Ace, Trans, and Polyam [ain't queer, but fly it nonetheless]).

You can tell it's a Christian school because they are leaving a lot of room for Jesus.
AmbiguousMouse 29th Jul 2019, 10:28 PM edit delete reply
I mean, they'd probably be leaving a little less room for Jesus if Rain were at all attracted to men, and Gavin in particular. Also neither of them know how to dance.

Did we ever actually confirm Rain ONLY liked girls?
Ruth 31st Jul 2019, 1:37 AM edit delete reply
Ruth
Not absolutely, no.
HRT can often affect what you thought were your preferences etched into stone. I spent half a century only attracted to and interested in females, and after a year and a half of HRT, I'm like Emily.... I like it all, as long as the magic chemistry is present for mutual attraction... actually I'd probably call myself pan/demi
AmbiguousMouse 31st Jul 2019, 7:13 AM edit delete reply
This is actually a really good point, and one I should have considered since I was more attracted to women before starting HRT (barely noticing men) and have completely flipped since (now SUPER attracted to men - they smell so good! - and have only felt anything towards, like, one woman in the two and a half years I've been on it). But from what I've seen, Jocelyn tends to write Rain more based on her personal experience, versus some other cast members who she draws from other people she's known. And since, to the extent of my awareness, Jocelyn's been lesbian before and after starting HRT, I don't particularly expect Rain to suddenly find herself getting the hots for men within the scope of the rest of the plot. I could be surprised, though!

I got into this comic five years ago during my freshman year of college. I really learned a lot reading this comic and I really like watching the characters grow. I hope this isn't the end.

My ballroom dancer self is sad. That said, I do realize how incredibly rare it is for high schoolers to know the first thing about dancing, so of course this is way more realistic. I was just weird. But also am sad.
