In case you've forgotten: not long ago, Ana stepped away after giving advice to Drew. She basically told her own tragic story to do so, but covertly framed it as "a friend of hers". Though her intent was just to tell Drew as a means of helping him understand Ky's situation, Ana did open up more about herself than usual in front him. As well as in front of Rain, Gavin, Emily, and Chanel. While Rain knows the truth about Ana and was able to piece together who the story was really about, it's unclear how much anyone else may have picked up on. All this happened here:
http://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/1163/

Following all that, the last thing we heard from Ana is that she needed a minute. And where better to get that space away from all the hullabaloo of prom than the bathroom, of course (I dunno. It's always bathrooms). Rain meanwhile, didn't necessarily go in to check on her, but she is probably going to the bathroom more frequently, because that's simply a side effect of her hormones. Again, if you've forgotten, this was explained here:

This finally brings us to today's actual page where Ana and Rain start to talk about all this. If Ana wants to talk, Rain's pretty much the only one she can discuss this with right now. I admit, not a whole lot happens here, but there's been a lot going on, so I felt like I had to bring up a few links to clarify everything. Maybe none of this wall of text was necessary, but I wanted to at least make sure we're all up to speed. ^_^

Happy to see rain checking in on Ana. I wonder if rain will in turn tell the story of her own mother. But seeing that A lot's going on already at the prom, it'll probably be saved for another day. I can't wait to see everyone, especially Ruby and Ky, on the Dance Floor

Ana tells Gavin they will talk after winter break.
Did I miss this?

@William

She said that on Valentine's Day following being given a doll and chocolates by Gavin, who'd been falling for her. All this after a few instances of telling him she's not quite ready to date (but she still seemed to like him). It's worth noting that after being gone for quite some time, she returned no longer says she isn't ready to date anymore. In fact, one of the earliest conversations the two have, is Gavin asking her to prom, which Ana very happily accepts.

We later see the two of them together, being all tight with each other.

We never technically saw them have a big talk about their relationship, and whether or not they're officially dating still technically remains unclear. But they're a lot closer now than they were before, so it can presumed that they had some time to talk off screen. I just felt it was more effective to depict things regarding that this way.

When did Rain find out about Ana? I don't remember that

Rain found out shortly after coming out to Ana. Ana then told her in secret in an effort to prevent being accidentally outed to anyone else.

If you're fuzzy on this interaction, I might just recommend Chapter 31 as a whole. It's a short one, but it offers a lot of what we, the audience, know about Ana. ^_^

@Jocelyn I have a question about Ana.... When you created her character as having complete natural heterochromia and intersex , did you know about the connection that natural heterochromia is caused by chimerism, and that XX/XY chimeras by genetic definition are a type of intersex, and very often (but don’t always) have overt physical traits being intersex such as mixed primary and/or secondary sexual characteristics? Just curious if you intentionally created her as a chimera , or just simply as intersex with heterochromia and later on learn of chimerism causing these traits?

I’m still trying to figure all this chimerism stuff out myself... I never even knew what an XX/XY chimera was until 2 weeks before my doctor’s appointment where I found out I was one and my poor little brain exploded trying to get a grasp on heavy duty philosophical stuff like I am my own twin brother and sister in one body with one consciousness , and sometimes that kinda freaks me out.

I'd like to say it was a well-researched affair that I confirmed with multiple sources and all that, but the truth is: Ana's heterochromia was kind of a whim. Many years ago (probably circa Chapter 8-9 or so of the comic, so Ana wasn't even a thought in my mind yet), a friend was simply recounting that she went somewhere and met a person with two distinctly differently-colored eyes. And I said to my friend, "You know, I don't think I've ever done that with a character before. Next character I make, I'm gonna give them heterochromia." It could've been any character; didn't even necessarily need to be someone in Rain. And the next character I would come up with just so happened to be Ana. That's pretty much it.

I did start doing some research on intersex conditions when I decided that's where I wanted to go with Ana's character, but the heterochromia part never came up in my findings. In fact, it wasn't until a while after she'd come into the story, and readers suspected there might be more to her than she let's on, that I started seeing people guess she could be intersex. I remember being really surprised people caught on as fast as they did, but a lot of them cited the heterochromia as their reasoning. So, while she presents something scientifically plausible, I admit it's all just an accident that worked out on my part. ^^;

@Jocelyn I’d say maybe serendipity more than accident! ?
Ana being an intersex, heterochromia tetragametic XX/XY chimera girl is the perfect storm. It all clicks together so well. And for her character to appear at the same timeframe as my own transition and learning what a chimera is then finding out that I’m also one, is just spooky as heck! I don’t have total heterochromia but instead have central heterochromia in both eyes and it appeared in the first 30 days of my starting HRT. My doctor explained it’s because my central nervous system (including eyes) is composed of a mosaic blend of XX and XY cells, approx 70% XX and in the absence of testosterone, the XX cells in my irises cannot retain melanin pigment very well so it washes away, leaving greenish hazel color behind and giving me 3 color central heterochromia with green, hazel (sometimes amber) and brown concentric rings. I just use hazel as a catch-all color name on official forms such as drivers license, etc, since the choices are limited. They used to be solid brown.

Today I learned that Ana has heterochromia. Which eye is which? I'm blue-green colorblind so I never noticed, and I don't recall it ever being outright stated, although my memory isn't that great.

Ana’s left eye is green, her right eye is blue.

I have learned 200% more about chimaeria in humans than I knew before reading these comments

Right eye blue, left eye green. It's usually hard to distinguish due to the art style though so it wouldn't surprise me if more people didn't notice

Fun fact: In the books - which have black and white pages - I darken Ana's right eye so that her eyes still look different from each other. :)

I'm imagining Rain talking a bit and then suddenly realizing that yes, she was supposed to be using the restroom.
