Oh, that Rudolph! Ever the troll. ^_^

Guest Rain Delay, by the very talented Maddie AKA GenericBunnyGirl, who's responsible for the webcomic, Least Likely Magical Girl. She's offered to do a short series of strips for me to share with you during my hiatus, and as a fan of her work myself, I'm very excited to see where it goes. I hope you'll all enjoy it too! ^_^

And you should all check out Maddie's comic while you're at it too:

Wait, why was a D10 Rolled instead of a D20?
Maddie 27th Jul 2018, 2:27 PM edit delete reply
Level 1 crew facing a d20 trap damage roll? Thats pretty mean.
Person 27th Jul 2018, 2:57 PM edit delete reply
Most premade DnD campaigns have a "random" trap or event that the game master decides on by rolling certain dice, in this case a D10.
Drake Zephyr 27th Jul 2018, 8:34 PM edit delete reply
not a d20 dmg roll, i meant for like deciding if he even stepped on the trap or not.
Person 28th Jul 2018, 9:34 AM edit delete reply
The trap was randomly decided between 10 different outcomes. the roll can be any dice depending on how many options there are, so you can have anything from a D4 to a D20

Assuming that HP bar is accurate, Flargnut has between 10 and 12 hit points, which is about right for a 1st-level Barbarian.
He probably should have been allowed a Reflex saving throw though (or Dexterity saving throw if they're playing 5th Edition).

Exactly what I was thinking! It's fair that the trap is there; how Rudy handled it, THAT'S not so fair.

"Blackleaf did not find the poison trap in time, and I declare her dead." if you don't know what this is from, use this link, . it's the only way to read that Chick Tract without being exposed to Second-Hand Soul Cancer, and it's got Mike and the bots too!"

I prefer this version.

So his real name is Rudolph...
Laura290 28th Jul 2018, 11:17 AM edit delete reply
Rudolph is being mean. He should have allowed a roll for dodging, a roll for detecting the trap, and a roll for accidentally not even stepping on it.

Technically, Gavin said he was just walking. so he's not looking for traps. The most he'd get is a single reflex save. If this was 3.5E or even 4E that is.
Laura290 29th Jul 2018, 7:46 PM edit delete reply
Even if you are just walking, you still have a small chance of noticing a trap like that, unless it's hidden well enough.
Say Taylor 29th Jul 2018, 11:14 AM edit delete reply
Considering the relatively low damage of the trap, I'd say that the placement at least is fair. A little unforgiving maybe, but a decent way to keep your players on their toes and aware that they're walking into a trap heavy area.

BAD GM! Why put a trap in the middle of nowhere? Unless a random trap smith is wandering around trapping areas just outside a large town...

Plot twist
Erin 30th Jul 2018, 5:33 PM edit delete reply
It's an unguarded castle, probably trapped to high heaven, the fact the DM mentioned it appears unguarded means he should've asked for more details.
Araiel 30th Jul 2018, 9:04 PM edit delete reply
Yeah I'd expect there to be plenty of traps. I'd just expect them to be inside the castle rather than in random squares under the dirt outside. I mean what player is gonna take 20 on a search check for each and every square they step over? XD
Drake Zephyr 31st Jul 2018, 10:48 PM edit delete reply
I'd expect to find some in anime. (OH!!!)

I bought falsies online yesterday, after failing to find suitable pairs in local retailers. Now I just have to wait for them to arrive....
