Today, we catch back up on Maria's escape (on her own now and actually escaping). I would imagine trying to not be spotted while walking down an empty hallway would be pretty stressful. Besides not having cover, those footsteps are gonna be pretty noisy. And if someone (like the very faculty you're trying to evade) starts coming around the corner you're heading towards while you're in the middle of the hall? What then?

So when Maria encounters gym teacher, Mrs. Parker, there's that moment of panic. Buuuuuut... it's not like every member of the faculty knows what's going on. And just as soon as the situation gets tense, it deflates again. Is that all there is to it though? I mean, even if Mrs. Parker is unaware of the situation now, she's now seen Maria on her path to escape. Hmm...

Wow! Now Father Quenton will know that Maria escaped, but hopefully they don't track it down to Blair.
Kyle 14th May 2018, 3:00 PM edit delete reply
Quintion could punish Mrs. Parker for not stopping her too, maybe even fire her, regardless whether she knew what was going on or not. I think we can all agree that's the kind of man he is. If anything, we should all hope she runs into Fara on the way out.
Ciary 14th May 2018, 10:07 PM edit delete reply
yes, but the only ones who knows they saw eachother are mrs parker and maria. so unless she tells quenton she did nothing when encountering a student in the hallway during class hours that she didn't know was in trouble, then quenton will never know.
Lucille Sphere 14th May 2018, 11:58 PM edit delete reply
@Kyle:
Actually, Father Quentin can't fire her. Two things no principle ever has the authority to do are to fire teachers and to expel students. In order to do either, the principle must submit a written recommendation to the school board (or parish board of directors, in the rare case that there is no separate school board), and the board will look into it and decide on the appropriate course of action. This is also why I keep pointing out that Maria IS NOT currently expelled, she has been suspended pending expulsion. It's only the morning of the day after Father Quentin "expelled" her, the board probably hasn't recieved his recommendation yet, assuming he's even written one.

I've gone into detail about the expulsion process and how it works on previous pages but it's obvious I'm being ignored.

I understand you are basing your theory of how Maria can still remain a student at St. Hallavard on what you know from real life, but this is a work of fiction, so for all we know Quinton could have total totalitarian say over what goes on in the school. Nothing is set in stone until Jocelyn tells us otherwise, and until that happens, all I'm going on is 100% pure speculation. I'll admit I'm more biased to the moral ramifications resolving the situation than the legal ones, but hey, both parties can be used against Quinton when it comes to it.

This is actually mildly scarier than the idea of Father Quenton security robots that fire conversion lasers from their eyes.
Kyle 14th May 2018, 3:16 PM edit delete reply
Seems a bit out there for an old school prick like Quntion, but I wouldn't put it past him if he'd hire a bunch of conversion therapy thugs with batons to patrol the halls and classrooms.

Now for my own comment. I feel like this could be a true test of charecters for Mrs.Parker. Back when she, Fara, and that other teacher saw Arthur leading Maria and Chanel to his office, the other guy asked when homosexuality became "trendy", and Mrs. Parker said she was glad her son wasn't like that and didn't know what she'd do if so and Fara laid into them how they, as teachers, l were supposed to support these kids up and act like leaders to them instead if bullies--im hoping that moment will give Mrs. Parker the motivation to lie for Maria.

There'll come a time when lines will be drawn at st. Hallavard, and I'm hoping the right people know which side to pick. ✊
Tualha 14th May 2018, 4:09 PM edit delete reply
Why does she have to lie? "Oh! I saw Maria, Father Quenton. Um, about 15 minutes ago, near the back entrance." Which is totally useless for tracking her, unless someone happened to spot Blair's car and remembers the license number. Not bloody likely.

She might lie for herself, of course, to avoid Quenton's unreasonable wrath, as Kyle's comment suggests.
Kyle 14th May 2018, 4:22 PM edit delete reply
Because once she realizes the situation, it'll be up to her to hopefully see the wrongs Quinton has done by punishing Maria. Is it morally wrong to lie to protect an innocent? Ask yourself this if someone you knew was in Maria shoes.
FishEye18 14th May 2018, 4:41 PM edit delete reply
I'd totally lie flat out to protect Maria. If it's morally wrong is subjective and varies with opinion, and in mine Maria has valid reason, she has done nothing to deserve this crap, same for her brother. At this point my concerns would be making sure she and her brother don't suffer any more emotional damage. If it means removing her from a toxic environment and she consents to being removed from said environment, so be it.
MaybeMarie 14th May 2018, 5:12 PM edit delete reply
Whether it's morally wrong does not matter, because, as Tualha pointed out, Ms. Parker probably doesn't have information that could lead to tracking down Maria.
Kyle 14th May 2018, 5:25 PM edit delete reply
Does Quinton really strike you as someone who'd let one little mistake like that slide? To him, whether Parker knew anything or not is irrelevant. She incidently let a "sinner" escape from school, and he's gonna be on the warpath now to find her and he'll make sure anyone who helped her, intentionally or not, burn for it.
FishEye18 14th May 2018, 6:42 PM edit delete reply
In the case of "burning for it":

Sin: Sin Points:
Gay 5
Pegan 10
Cat Tail 2
Yaoi Fan 5
Equality 10

Grand Total: 32
(Based on grandfather's opinions and on rant levels)

Statistics jokes aside, Quenton is one of those vindictive people - and they will always go down in history books as terrible people unless they learn the error of their ways.

And people like Quinton and Mr. Strongwell are too far gone.
Mamukoot 15th May 2018, 11:53 AM edit delete reply
How many points is being a female yuri fan worth?
FishEye18 15th May 2018, 3:17 PM edit delete reply
@Mamukoot
Yuri is a bit more complex. Homophobes do *tend* to have more outright hate towards gay men but less towards lesbian women. Thanks to the porn industry having "lesbian" porn that ends with a male finisher, there is a tendency for them to see lesbian couples as eye candy for themselves (among other far lewder things), the sin points for being a Yuri can could range from 2 to 5.

I'll let you decide. Sin points is a complex science.

Maria's 18, she has a legal right to leave school whenever she wants. Short of illegally kidnapping her, what could the school even do if they caught her escaping right now? If they knew Emily was involved, they could punish Emily, but right now Maria is alone. Even if they somehow figured out she was leaving with Blair, they can't really do anything to him, since he doesn't go to school there anymore. And the worst punishment a school has at their disposal (within the bounds of the law) is expulsion, which they already used on Maria, so they don't have an easy way to punish her further.

Now that I am thinking about it more, I think the only meaningful way they could punish Maria would be if they knew she was staying with Blair, and they told her parents in the hopes that Maria's parents would do something illegal to her. So, as long as Father Quinten isn't planning on committing a felony himself (which is certainly possible), then Maria really just needs to make sure the school doesn't find out where she is going.

Jealous of Rain she has so many supportive friends, and I have none. Even the trans community hates for being trans. I guess I will always be alone. Oh well, life has never been kind to me why would it give me a break now?
Tualha 15th May 2018, 11:44 AM edit delete reply
Careful, Anon. Thinking that everyone hates you for no reason is what leads incels to become incels. Try communicating with people, maybe they'll tell you what you're doing wrong ...
Anon 15th May 2018, 8:48 PM edit delete reply
No reason? Who are you to claim it's no reason? You have no right. You don't know me, what I have gone through, or the situation, so you can put a sock in it.
Tualha 15th May 2018, 9:41 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, wow, can’t imagine why you don’t have any friends with that style of interaction …
Anon 15th May 2018, 11:37 PM edit delete reply
And people wonder why I am starting to hate the trans community. They pretend to accept everyone but when it comes to it they really flip even their own kind off
Tualha 15th May 2018, 11:52 PM edit delete reply
Sigh … do you really expect people to accept you when you have this huge chip on your shoulder and so much hostility toward people? If you want to be accepted, try accepting people yourself! Try being friendly! Try not to take offense so quickly when the other person didn’t intend to give any. Try to be more positive, instead of the extreme negativity you display in the beginning of this thread.

You’re jealous of Rain for having supportive friends? Go read the archives again and see how she got them. She didn’t get them by being a gloomy cuss, and she didn’t get them by snapping at people, either.

You can go and screw yourself

Tualha I don't consider you a good person you assume my statements had no reason and have absolutely no idea how that might be hurtful to another.
Guest 16th May 2018, 3:50 AM edit delete reply
If you act this way to other people, you shouldn't complain when people push you away and hate you. I won't pretend to know what's going on in your life. But if everyone you talk to hates you, maybe you're the problem, not them.
Anon 16th May 2018, 8:20 AM edit delete reply
Like you even care, that they completely ignored what I had said and called it no reason.

agreed, that was totally uncalled for. *hugs*

@Anon, I can see you've been through a huge amount of hardship, and you deserve to be heard. Are you looking for places to reach out?
Kyle 16th May 2018, 3:17 PM edit delete reply
@Anon
I can sorta understand where your coming from. I'm not trans, but I never really connected well with others on high school school myself, and there are times where I think it's unfair that Rain has so many friends who accept her and who'd rush to her defense. In the real world not everyone is as lucky as she is, that's something I'm always thinking of in the back of my mind when in read this comic.

Another thing that really panged me was that one Transgender Day of Remembrance post where Rain, Jessica, and Vincent were looking at all those graves etched with the names of but a fraction of trans people who didn't make it. We all know Rain's name will never be amoung them, but that doesn't mean someone else's name wont be. I don't wanna see yours or else's names marked on stone like that. There's always a willful ear out there to heed your qualms (a teacher, a counceler, a relitive), and your bravery to reach out to them is a step in the right direction.

I hope that helps you.

So like half my class came out yesterday. We’ve been playing questions outside and it’s really funny when it’s this one straight guys turn and we are all like, "wait. You’re straight aren’t you?"
