The good news is that Rudy is in school. Well, it's hard to call it "good" news in the sense of what this school is. But if he's here, that means he's not in a conversion camp. So that's good at least, even if it's not all around great news.
The bad news, as Rain mentioned a few pages ago, is that Todd is in school too. And seemingly unpunished. If you recall from very early on in the comic, Rudy was a frequent victim of bullying from Todd. But after Maria "nicely asked him to back off", Todd basically disappeared for half the story. Immediately aware that Maria is no longer in school, Todd wastes little time finding him again.
Rudy's not really a fighter, but the boy is kinda pro when it comes to sass and telling it like it is to people. But will that be enough here?
Nah.
Rudy's going to suddenly have a phoenix fly overhead that lands on his head, he'll say a sassy phrase, and disappear in a flash of fire and smoke.
And then Todd punched Rudy (possibly more than once), and then Father Quenton Saw it, and then FQ did nothing, and then a meteor fell from the sky and killed all the homophobes. (I can dream)
drake, the fact that you're okay with having homophobic friends honestly doesn't speak well for you as a person.
this is not about 'opinions' - these people are infringing on our right to exist. that is not okay. i think you need to take some time to think about why you think garbage like that is fucking okay.
That look on Rudy's face on the last panel makes me think of the look on Maria's face when she asked to have a word with Todd during the Halloween party (comic 162). I've got a feeling he's done taking this crap from Todd. After what happened to Maria, Rudy's probably not as scared of the consequences that were preventing him from fighting back in the past. I hope he stands up for himself and scares the hell out of that jerk.
I still feel like Todd has a troubled past that he's hiding, and instead of opening up to anyone, he lashes out in violence as a cover. Because deep down he has some real problems and he's too scared to tell anyone. That's a common cause for people becoming bullies. Nobody is just bad for no reason. I don't think he's like closeted LGBT in anyway, at the closest, maybe he has like 2 moms or 2 dads and used to get made fun of for that?
From what I saw (and lived), children bullies either have an authoritarian parental figure who uses violence against them (any kind of violence, physical, emotional, verbal, etc.) and makes them feel helpless and angry, which causes them to lash out in order to regain self-empowerment. Or they're kids at the top of the school's social order trying to establish a pecking order (a bit like what Emily was perceived to do in the beginning).
Todd may or may not be in either or both of those cases, but one thing is certain: to become the kind of relentless bully he is, he has got to gain something out of it. As far as we know he's doing this alone, not with a group behind him, so someone in an authority position is probably praising him somehow for his violent behaviour. Otherwise there's no point in striking terror around you, it only makes you lonely and far less likely to get what you want in the long run (something Todd actually seems to be suffering from, assuming that's one of the reasons why he assaulted girls into being his girlfriend).
I'd be far less surprised to learn Todd has a stern parent who keeps telling him "don't be a 'sissy'" and talks trash about gay people than for him to have LGBTQIA+ parents or relatives. Heck I'd even be less surprised to learn he and Father Quenton are close relatives. LGBTQIA+ parents would squish that kind of behaviour out of him reaaaally quickly, especially as Todd isn't a subtle kind of guy and wouldn't know how to hide that attitude at home.
That's not entirely true, many people are violent for no reason. My biological father for one beat me until I vomited blood when I was 3 years old because I got in the way of him watching tv which caused him to spill his beer.
Eliza that’s awful and I’m so sorry this happened to you :’(
I think Leaf might mean that people who are violent usually have had something happen to them in the past to f*** them up... this isn’t any excuse for violently behaviour of course but often the reason behind it...
Actually I was talking about school-age bullies, not adults. School kids and teens who bully younger kids and teens. Adults being violent toward others (kids or other adults) are a whole different can of worms.
I'm sorry this happened to you too, Eliza. It's awful. I have no words except to say sometimes parents are the worst.
I so hope that this happens. Not that Rudy gets hurt, that would be an unfortunate side effect. But I hope this leads to Todd getting expelled, or Fr. Quentin being replaced as principal after holding Maria to a different standard than Todd. I hope that it's Fr Q that's replaced tho, because then all the student's benefit and maybe Brother Arthur has a chance encourage Todd to not be a bully.
As mentioned on the Norman Strongwell page Rudy is venting his frustration by speaking his mind with no filter. I sense Rudy may be setting Todd up so that he can be punished but at the cost of bodily harm
Don't know if it would work. The little ducker commited Assault and Battery, and he got away scot-free (Assault for the threatening way he behaved with Chanel, Battery when he grabed her. Minor aybe, but it's theoretically right).
Rudy, you may not be a fighter, but... I suggest you consider raising quickly and violently your leg between Todd's ones, and follow up with a push forward of your knee once he's on his own knees. Odds are the principal will expel you for no reason anyways, so at least make it '''worth it'''.
Also, yay for first post here. Wish it was for cherrier circumstances though.

Alright you St. Hallvard brats
I'm gonna show you how to do, the Todd
Well, if you take your fist and you stick it up to space
And then you grab a bullied kid and wave it in their face
You growl out a threat and start acting like a sod
Now you're doin' the Todd
You see, NOW would be a good time for Father Quenton to walk around the corner...
Who am I kidding, he'd probably let Todd off with a warning because he's hypocritical shit.
AHHHHGG!! I HATE THEM BOTH SO MUCH!! >:(
If there isn't there will be soon

INTO THE COURT ROOM
THE HOMOPHOBES MARCH
YOUTH SIDE BY SIDE TO STOP THE HATEFUL CHARGE
...Maybe I should switch to decaffeinated beverages in the morning...
I just hate that dick, okay?
Seriously, all we need now is someone to mention the Blue Bolt and we'll have the trifecta of DM Punishments.

Seeing who it is, regardless of what scene he walks upon...
“Oh, good for you Todd. Teach that godless heathen not to pick a fight with God’s Chosen.” Or something similar.
