It was only a little earlier in the chapter, but a lot has been going on lately, so in case you'd already forgotten, Ana did in fact suggest that Rudy should apologize for the hit and run with Colette... well, she said that Ruby should, actually.

Sooo, what happens now? Is Rudy going to just tell this stranger that they collided in a ladies' room? Have we seen Colette respond to LGBT matters yet to even know what kind of reaction to expect? Could Ana actually somehow be outed by this when neither Rudy nor Colette know anything about it.

In fairness to Rudy, since Ana isn’t out to him, he has no way of knowing that she is afraid of people guessing she might be trans. Still doesn’t make it any easier for Ana to hear.

Honestly, she wasn't really thinking ahead when suggesting that Ruby should apologize. If she's so insistent that the queer stuff stays away from her, she'd have hoped Colette never met Ruby again.

I love Ana's face on the last panel. As for what happens now, I hope that Ana, Colette, and RUBY go dress shopping. That's probably a long shot though based on Rudy's current situation.

I don't think Ana needs to be worried. She is fully transitioned and there is no physical evidence that she is trans (? is this true). She may have only had a single puberty (? is this possible, medically and/or legally). I think the only way she could be outed is if someone gets hold of her medical records, or perhaps asks her former boyfriend (My theory is that she came out to her former boyfriend and got beaten up as a consequence.)

Sorry if this has been addressed before and I just missed it, but does Ana have heterochromia? In panel 4, it looks like she has one green eye and one blue one. :o

I don't think it's been explicitly stated, but she does, yeah.

Yes. The genetics that are the source of that phenominon are that the two eyes developed from two different sets of DNA. Ana is a tetragametic human chimera. And since we now know that she was born with an intersex condition that most likely involved both male and female reproductive system parts, was surgically altered after birth to be assigned male, which was wrong, and now recently given gender corrective surgery to restore her female repriductive system parts to the extent of what medical science of today can achive realistically and practically. She was born with a high degree of hermaphroditism in her prenatal development. Specifically, Ana's genetics would be most likely 46,XX/46,XY, but could also be 46,XX/47XXY too. When Ana was conceived , they (and yes, the plural pronoun is exactly correct to use here) began as two different ova (eggs) got fertilized at the same time by two different sperm cells. Ordinary they would've developed as fraternal twin brother and sister..... like Rain's brother and sister Aiken and Kellen did. But, something happened to the two zygotes as they began doing the cell division thing and growing, probably while they were still less than 100 cells each as blastocysts, they were physically close enough to each other that they stuck together and merged into one developing embryo, which grew to become one fetus, then one infant.... Ana..... made up of body tissues of two different lines of DNA, one karyotyped female, the other karyotyped as either male or possible XXY.

I've been studying this phenomenon intensely lately, and I've been trying to put the puzzle pieces of my own life, and why I am why I'm different and non-standard. I've got numerous physical, medical, and psychological features myself, that are too easily explained by very possibly being just like Ana..... a 46,XX/46,XY tetragametic chimera, born with some kind of partial hermaphroditism. My mother repeatedly said to everyone she was certainnthe baby she was carrying was a girl. Surgery was performed on me a few days after birth to "excise and close up an accessory urethral vent and unfused section of posterior perineum" and I was assigned as male. My pelvis is distinctly female shaped. Large oval unobstructed opening in the middle, wide, U-shaped pubic arch, Femininely shaped, wider hips with curves that do not look typically male at all. I have always been able to easily do the "chair trick". I have central heterochromia. 3 different distinct colors in my eyes. I have always been sterile, never produced any viable sperm. I am transgender, and have been like this since my earliest childhood memories. But unlike Ana, I am just now coming to grips with this thing, figuring out all the "why's", and finally accepting it....... in my mid 50s. After denying and repressing everything for half a century because I thought I was supposed to allow everybody else to dictate who I am. Not anymore. I am (or rather, we are) captain of this ship now, and she is finally at the helm.

Yea, Ana's heterochromia is actually visible from her very first appearance. However, you can see her eyes most clearly on the cover page of chapter 31.

"Its all just to blur of shimmering colors to me."

"to"? I'm sure you meant "a" here. I do the same thing constantly.
Guest 27th Feb 2018, 8:42 AM edit delete reply
...no? Would you mind explaining? You wouldn't say "a me"
same guest 27th Feb 2018, 8:44 AM edit delete reply
ohhh "to blur" vs "a blur" I see it now

Ana's reaction here is why I think being deep stealth is not good for a persons psyche. Ana is going to give herself an aneurism if she doesn't stop being so paranoid.
Anastasia 27th Feb 2018, 6:57 PM edit delete reply
Not all stealth people react like that.

I'm stealth, and I don't get worried about stuff like "outting by association". That concept is really dumb.
Fox 27th Feb 2018, 8:27 PM edit delete reply
That's why I specified deep stealth, stealth on it's own can be fine, but when a person is in deep stealth they take it one step further and try to essentially erase a large part of their life as it it doesn't exist at all. I've seen people die because they didn't tell doctors about their birth sex and were not given necessary checks for cancer of parts they still had.
Fox 27th Feb 2018, 8:32 PM edit delete reply
I agree outing by association is dumb because it leads to paranoia and throwing people under the bus, at least in my experience. I'm stealth to all but my doctors, family, and friends that knew me pre-transition, but I freely hang out with anyone of any gender, sexuality, or whatever because I choose my friends based on liking them as people not on whether or not they make me look more typical.
Anastasia 28th Feb 2018, 5:31 PM edit delete reply
We're in the same boat then. I'm also stealth to anyone who didn't know me prior (except doctors).

I've never heard "deep stealth" as a term, so it didn't register as a different term than just "stealth".
Fox 28th Feb 2018, 9:19 PM edit delete reply
Ah okay, maybe it's more of a local term idk. Sorry for the confusion.
Fox 1st Mar 2018, 3:33 AM edit delete reply
Basically in my area stealth is defined as not telling anyone you're trans and it may be applied only to specific areas. Deep stealth means erasing your past and fabricating a new one in which you are and always have been cis.

Is the plot of Black Wings Kaminari a deliberate reference to the Windia storyline in Breath of Fire 2, or is it just a surprisingly unlikely coincidence?

William 27th Feb 2018, 8:30 PM edit delete reply
Not that unlikely. After all wings are common enough, as are royal children that are hidden away because of a prophesy.

I thought I remember reading a comment from the author where she said that BWK was inspired by Breath of Fire 2. However, I can't seem to find it on any of the three websites Rain is on.

@Plellersketti

To confirm: it is a reference. I'm not shy about my love of Breath of Fire 2 and especially Nina from that game. Since I wanted Rain's interests to be somewhat in line with my own, her favorite character from her main fandom was either going to be like BoF2's Nina or FF4's Rydia. Nina's storyline was easier to make relevant to Rain as character, but Kaminari having green hair is still a nod to Rydia. ^_^
